A change pulse
Use during a reorganization, a merger or a new system rollout.
A hybrid work pulse
Use when teams split time between home and the office.
Rules for a pulse that people keep answering
- Keep it under 10 questions. Each extra question costs responses.
- Repeat the same questions. Changing them every time hides the trend.
- Tell people what changed. If nothing follows the pulse, people stop answering.
- Show results by team. Wait for 5 or more responses before showing any group.
- Do not run it more often than you can act. Monthly is enough for most teams.
Questions
What is a pulse survey?
A pulse survey is a short, frequent survey, usually 5 to 10 questions, that tracks how people are doing between longer annual surveys.
How often should we run a pulse survey?
Weekly for fast-moving teams, monthly for most organizations, quarterly at the least. The right rhythm is the one the organization can act on.
